Meet a stallholder - Mustardseed

Meet Katherine from Mustardseed. Katherines passion is food and cookery and she spends her time growing lovely produce from her home in Ongar.

Katherine runs cookery classes from her home as well as making a full range of lovely pickles, chutneys and jams.

You might also notice the fabulous range of homeware and cookery items for sale on Katherines stall, just one of the many strings she has to her bow!

I've heard through the grapevine that Mustardseed will be bringing boozy mincemeat to Decembers market and may even offer you the chance to try it in one of their lovely mini mince pies! You can find out more about katherine and Mustardseed at her website www.mustardseedfarm.co.uk

Meet a stallholder - La Maitress

Meet Jacqui, owner of the wonderful La Maitress. Jacqui is an extremely talented seamstress & knitter and makes beautifully handcrafted items for the home.

On market day the La Maitress stall is full of tiny treasures for you to take home such as lavender scented hearts, mobile phone cosies, rag dolls, tea cosies and the most beautiful hand embroidered and embellished pin cushions you could imagine.

Jacquis items start from as little as £1.75 and I know she is working on some adorable Christmas treats for you all to buy at the December Market on the 5th.

Jacqui will also have some lovely buttons available for all you crafty types as she is also owner of The Button Stop Shop.

It's market day this Sunday

Well the weather is set to be glorious and there are no public holidays. Hopefully this will mean we get a great turnout to this Sundays market. We have stepped up the advertising and you will find us with a full colour ad in the Brentwood Gazette, an article in the weekly news, a big board and a new banner on the Ingrave Road, a massive leaflet drop and 50 laminated posters on lamposts all over the place. If that does not attract new visitors I dont know what will!
So who have we got coming this week?

Little Black Cat

Beautiful Things

Heards Farm Organic Veg

Sandra Thorpe Cakes

La Maitresse

Totham Bangers

Mum and Me Jam Company

Beadswax Candles

Clare Bates Phoenix Cards

Diane Ireton Jewellery

Foodies we need you

Note to any potential food stall holder interested in joining us at the Ingrave Community Market:

We have been running since September 2009 on the 1st Sunday of every month @ the brand new Knights Way Community Centre in Brentwood. During our 2009 markets we saw a nice footfall and were very well supported, however sadly since returning in the New Year we have become accustomed to much lower visitor numbers. We want to put a stop to this and bring the market back up to the successful event that it was. Therefore we have undertaken some market research in the area and have discovered that what the locals are after is more food stalls and less craft.

For this reason we are about to change from our original ethos of ‘only Brentwood based stall holders’ and open the doors to all of you wonderful stallholders that make and produce your own foodstuffs outside of the Brentwood area.

As an incentive for you to join us at what may well be another quiet market in June we are offering you a free stand, based on the fact that if you have a good day you might want to pay for your pitch (regular cost only £4.50) but if you don’t have such a good day then feel free to walk away with all of your takings. (The few food stalls we do have do well despite low numbers of visitors).

We are intending to do a large mailshot of the area to tell our local customers that there will be new stalls in attendance and hopefully we can watch them crawl back out of the woodwork. We also hope that word will get out about our newly improved market and that Julys event will be even bigger!

Booking forms are available by e-mailing ingravecommunitymarket@clairemackaness.com Once I have your form then I will include you in our mailshot and mention your stall here on our blog. We are also on Facebook and Twitter so will be promoting your company via these avenues as well.

I hope you’d like to join us (fingers crossed)

To close or not to close, that is the question

It is with great sadness that I am having to contemplate closing the market down. We have been running for 7 months and each month we get the same faces visit us but no new people.

We appreciate the support we get very much, but the numbers are too low to make it worthwhile attending for many of our regulars.

We are writing to the press this week to encourage them to help us publicise the event further, but unless you support us we will have to close down.

Please spread the word. The next market is on Sunday 2nd May. If numbers improve, then I will be able to attract some new stallholders so it will be better for all concerned.

Please support your local market.

We are back

Well Christmas is over and finally we are back to normal. The Ingrave Market returns this Sunday 7th Feb at a new time of 9.30am - 12.30am. We will be joined by Great Totham Bangers who will be selling their full range of sausages and my lovely husband will be cooking up a storm in the kitchen making sausage sandwiches made with their produce. Why not come along to get your eggs, bread and organic veggies and whilst your there, enjoy the fabulous craft stalls and share a cup of tea and a sandwich with friends.
